Concealed Carry Reciprocity Map: Which States Honor Which Permits

Tool · Liberty

Colours the fifty states and the District by whether they honor the permit you pick, or by their licence statute's classification when no permit is picked, and opens each state's rule, ages and official page on a click.

What each control means

Permit issued by
The state that issued the permit in question. With one picked, each other state is coloured by whether its statute or its own licensing page says it honors that permit; the headline counts them. With none picked, the map shows each state’s licence regime.
State to read
Opens the same panel a click on the map opens: the licence regime on the statute’s face, whether carrying without a permit is lawful and from what age, the permit’s name, minimum age and whether non-residents may hold one, which permits the state honors, and the official page with the date it was read.
The map
Every state and the District is a button, reachable by mouse, touch or keyboard; the nine smallest north-eastern jurisdictions also have a labelled box beside the map. The table under the map lists all fifty-one in one place.

Assumptions and sources

What the colours mean
Honored means the state’s statute or licensing page recognizes a permit from the state picked. Honored with a condition means the page prints one, most often an age floor of 21, a resident-permit-only rule, or a background-check requirement on the issuing state; the panel quotes it. No permit needed means the state does not honor the permit but its statute lets a non-resident carry without one. Not honored is the rest.
How a statute is classified
On its face, the same convention as the State-by-State Firearm Law Reference: permitless where the offence is framed by age or disqualifying status and not by the absence of a licence, shall-issue where the authority ‘shall issue’ on objective criteria, may-issue where the wording is discretionary. Where the two pages read the same statute differently, the map follows the reference page and says so in the state’s panel.
Where a list comes from
The state’s attorney general, state police or licensing agency page, or the statute; forty-nine of fifty-one rows have one. South Carolina’s statute names only Georgia and North Carolina and its published list could not be found, so the map shows those two. West Virginia honors any state that honors its licence, so the Attorney General’s map of those states, dated 1 October 2025, is the list.
The dates
Every page was read on 16 September 2026, and the panel shows any as-of date the page itself prints. Two changes already on the books are flagged in their panels: Virginia’s recognition statute changes on 1 July 2027, and Washington’s licence statute on 1 May 2027. Texas’s Department of Public Safety page still shows a 2020 table that its 2025 statute superseded; the map follows the statute.
Outside the map
Vehicle and transit carve-outs, open carry, provisional and enhanced permit classes beyond a printed condition, local ordinances, and anything about obtaining a permit. Twenty-five fields across the rows are marked as not located, never filled in, and the panel says so where it matters.

This is an educational reference and not legal advice. Each state's rule is what its statute or its own licensing page said on the date shown; reciprocity lists change without notice, and the official page linked in each state's panel is the current word.
