Bills & Beans started from a simple annoyance: most writing about coffee, money, and rights is either dumbed down past the point of usefulness or written to sell you something. We wanted the third option — pieces written by people who actually know the subject, for readers who’d rather understand a thing properly than skim a listicle about it.
Why these three, together?
Coffee, money, and liberty don’t share a syllabus, but they share a reader: someone who wants to run their own morning, their own budget, and their own decisions without being talked down to. We cover the science and technique behind a better cup, the unglamorous mechanics of budgeting and debt, and the actual text and history behind the rights people argue about most. Different beats, same standard — real expertise, sourced and explained, not filler.
How we work
Every piece is written by someone with real background in that beat, not a generalist working off search results. We name our sources, we correct mistakes openly rather than editing them away quietly, and we’d rather publish less and be right than chase a news cycle. If you want to know who’s actually writing what you’re reading, that’s on our Meet the Desk page.
